Services

 Worship

Worshipping God is central to all we do as a church.  We welcome everyone, of all ages and backgrounds into our worship services.  We come together as a church community on a Sunday for prayer, praise and preaching:

10.45am          Various types of service :- All-age, Parade, Traditional, Holy Communion, Baptism…

Sunday School and Crèche is available for children, who always join us for at least part of the service.

6.00pm            Mostly Traditional with some contemporary Praise services.

Wednesday Prayers and Quiet Time

We meet together for a small service of prayer each Wednesday at 10am.  The church is open and available for quiet personal prayer on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion (also called The Lord’s Supper) takes place regularly: once a month in our main Sunday worship, and also during evening services and Wednesday prayers (please see the Beacon magazine or weekly notices for details).  We recognise that Holy Communion is a sacred act – a celebration of God’s love and grace for each one of us – and so we welcome all to take part and receive the bread and wine.  Children of all ages are very welcome to take bread and wine (although some families may want a simple blessing instead).

Baptisms, Thanksgivings and Confirmations

We believe that God’s love and grace is for all, even before we know anything of it.  Children and babies are welcome to be baptised into the Church, upon request to the minister.

For parents who want to celebrate a new birth in the family without full baptism, the church offers a service of thanksgiving for the baby.

We also welcome adults and older children who wish to be baptised, and as such become full members of the Church.

Adults and older children who have been baptised as infants may be confirmed in order to accept their place in God’s Church.  Please talk to the minister for more details.

Weddings and Marriage Blessings at Barwell Methodist Church

At Barwell Methodist Church, we believe that the church ceremony is the most important part of one of the best days of your life.  We’ll do everything we can to make it extra special for you and to make your guests feel at home.

The Marriage Service

Our service is based on the traditional Christian ceremony, with modern words, following the order in our Methodist Worship Book, but it is very flexible, and you will be able to choose your own readings, hymns and music, with help from the minister.

How many guests?

Our church can comfortably seat 120 people, with room for an additional 40.

How much does it cost?

Prices may vary from year to year, but the standard cost of a wedding here will be around £200, including fees for the minister, organist and a steward to help things run smoothly on the day.   Please speak to the minister if the cost may be a problem for you.

Flowers

It is possible that we may be able to provide all the flower arrangements for the church, at very reasonable prices, depending on your choice of colours and availability of flowers.  A rough price guide is available.

A printed order of service?

Our church office can produce a good quality order of service, at a very reasonable cost, or if you’re designing one yourself, we can help with what to put in it.

Reception venue?

Our church hall can also be used for small reception parties, although we do not permit alcohol on the premises.  We can also recommend other local venues.

Blessings

If you have been married abroad, or at another venue, and wish to have a Christian ceremony to seal your vows, we offer a blessing service, with prayers for you as a newly-married couple.  We can also do a service for the renewal of vows, after a number of years of marriage.
